Worship with us

Holy Eucharist,
every Lord's Day.

Our services follow the traditional Anglican liturgy of the Book of Common Prayer (2019) — Word and sacrament, hymns and prayer, the same shape of worship Christians have prayed together for centuries.

The shape of the service

Two halves
of one whole.

Our service is split into two parts. Together they form the historic shape of Christian worship handed down from the earliest Church.

I.

The Liturgy of the Word

We give thanks to God for his revelation of himself to us in the Bible. We read together passages from the Bible and listen to a sermon from these passages. We respond to the Scripture by proclaiming our faith through the Nicene Creed, praying for God's work in the world, confessing our sins, receiving the great blessing of God's forgiveness, and sharing the peace of God with one another.

II.

The Liturgy of the Eucharist

We begin by joyfully bringing our offerings before God. Then follows our remembrance of God's gift to us by recounting the story of Christ's redemption as we consecrate communion. All those who are baptized in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost — including children — are invited to receive the bread (regular or gluten-free) and wine, thereby receiving the grace of God that brings us into communion with both God and fellow believers.

"Leitourgia"

The work
of the people.

Liturgy means "work of the people" — and throughout the service the congregation is invited to participate in this work by singing, reading, responding, sharing, and receiving Christ.

In standing, kneeling, speaking, listening, making the sign of the cross, approaching the table and reaching out to receive communion, we use our bodies as well as our minds to remember the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Those who are new to it may find that it takes a while to learn the steps of this great "dance" — but we are happy to help people learn and discover the beauties of the liturgy. You'll be given a service bulletin at the door that walks you through every line.

Music

Songs that
lift heart
& spirit.

Under the direction of Dr. Cindy Bauchspies, St. Andrew's has a growing and vibrant music program.

On any given Sunday you will hear contemporary songs, classic hymns, and original music written for our congregation — accompanied by piano, guitar, mandolin, bass, or dulcimer. Dr. Bauchspies curates a wide variety of songs from many time periods and genres for the congregation to sing: prayers, statements of faith, laments, encouragements in the faith, and promises of God.

The music is printed in the weekly bulletin, so those who read music have quick access to what they are singing, and those who don't read music can start to learn if they wish. The congregation sings original music for the Sanctus, Agnus Dei, and the Memorial Acclamation, and we are given original instrumental music to accompany the Eucharist each week. All are invited to join in the creation of music that lifts heart and spirit in praise to God.

St. Andrew's is grateful to enjoy several musical groups that contribute to our worship — a children's choir, a teen choir, and a children's string ensemble, as well as an adult string quartet, a professional vocal quartet, and various groups of musicians and enthusiasts who gather to practice and fellowship in preparation for offering their music in worship.

These groups prepare beautiful offerings for our annual December Lessons & Carols service and our Easter Vigil — where almost half the congregation, young and old alike, come together to participate in choirs, string ensembles, brass ensembles, and general musical accompaniment. It is a joy to have adults and children alongside one another, making music together to the glory of God and the delight of the congregation.

Children

Holy noise
welcome.

We love our children and welcome their participation in the service as well, even if this leads to a good bit of "holy noise" in the service. During the sermon we offer a nursery and children's chapel for children second grade and below.

After the service

Coffee hour
& potluck.

Following the service we have a coffee hour to provide a time of fellowship. We also share a potluck lunch on the first Sunday of the month — the kitchen is the warmest room in the building, and we'd love for you to stay.
